The Bishops’ Conference issues the following advice in regard to the Omicron covd-19 variant:
People displaying symptoms of covid-19 should stay at home and not travel to church or participate in person.
Hand sanitiser should be used by those attending church (available in the church porch).
People must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth unless medically exempt
Good ventilation maintained in the building. People are encouraged to receive the vaccine and booster jabs. Those visiting the sick or housebound should take regular lateral flow tests (free from NHS).
Please do everything you can to ensure the safety of the congregation. Thank you.
POPE FRANCIS' PRAYER INTENTION FOR JANUARY 2022
You don't need to be much of an expert to know that a lack of inter- religious understanding leads to a lack of empathy. At worst, a lack of empathy can lead to religious discrimination, and at its very worst, discrimination can even lead to persecution. It is true that the basis of most world religions has values such as love and kindness and peace by which to live our lives. So if living by a universally agreed set of values is central to all beliefs, how do we find it so difficult to get along? How is it that our brothers and sisters across the globe are persecuted for what they believe in? How is it that we shun those of other beliefs in our own communities? This month we are invited to join in Pope Francis’s prayer intention “…for all those suffering from religious discrimination and persecution; may their own rights and dignity be recognized, which originate from being brothers and sisters in the human family.”

SECOND COLLECTION 16 JANUARY FOR PAX CHRISTI
This Sunday 16 January, is PEACE SUNDAY and this year Pope Francis asks us to think about ‘Education, work and dialogue between generations: tools for building lasting peace’. In this country we have an active Catholic peace movement in Pax Christi, which does a great deal of good work to promote peace and nonviolence through parishes, schools and social media.
Their website suggests many ways we can all become better peacemakers.
There are activities for families to do at home, including a peace liturgy for young children. https://paxchristi.org.uk/peace-sunday-2022
Pax Christi needs our support to keep going. If you’d like to make a donation, small or large, here is the link: https://tinyurl.com/yxfcw67x
